Episode 17 - Running and Walking - Part 1
Welcome to The Hip Replacement Podcast – a show by a hip replacement patient FOR hip replacement patients, their families and friends.
Running may not be the best activity for hip implants
Still, some people would rather run than face life without running
Consider what you gain from running and whether there are any alternative ways to achieve the same outcome.
If you’re going to run, mitigate impact to the hip as much as possible by:
- Avoiding running on concrete
- Selecting events with off-road surfaces
- Landing on the balls of your feet rather than your heels
- Getting fit for the right shoes taking into consideration your hip
- Alternating between walking and running
